My career has been dedicated to the intersection of storytelling, technology, and design as means to inspire a deeper understanding of how we experience the world. From independent filmmaking to digital media programming to immersive technology design, I have been guided by curiosity and empathy to create products using emerging technologies.

As I broke into filmmaking, new digital technologies provided greater opportunities to learn the crafts of directing, writing, and editing. Limited resources fueled my creativity and my first feature length movie received four Independent Spirit Award nominations. When internet video came online, I shifted focus and began creating for these new distribution platforms, eventually becoming Senior Director of Programming for Discovery Communications’ original digital content.

At Discovery, I was introduced to virtual reality. I experimented with hacked cameras and buggy software, helping define what would become DiscoveryVR. As I explored the many use cases for immersive technology, I felt its greatest potential would be as a tool for education.

I left Discovery to co-found Variable Labs. Leading our product initiative, I teamed up with a former NASA engineer to develop interactive immersive applications, seeking new ways to combine technology and storytelling to influence learning. While there, I was invited to the White House and presented a prototype of our VR salary negotiation simulator to the Secretary of Commerce and the CTO of the United States. I worked with Google and Facebook on Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. I developed relationships with NASA, experiencing first hand how they train astronauts using robotics, 3D printing, and immersive technologies. And, after learning the basics of C++, I spent time with the inventor of AutoCAD, trying to understand his computing toolkit that sequenced the human genome. I didn’t know it was possible, but my head hurt from thinking.

A long time ago I was named in Filmmaker Magazine as one of the 25 Faces to Watch in Independent Film.
